my perfume collection
Oct. 4th, 2022 10:34 amwhen i was little i used to always get excited about going out because my mom would let me use a little spritz of her favorite perfume. i've never been too interested in luxury goods, but something about that little golden bottle of armani she always made me feel so special, like for a brief time i, too, could get a taste of what it was like to be a Sophisticated Lady. even now, i find myself coming back to it over and over, trusting the gorgeous notes of white musk, jasmine, and citrus to give me and instant confidence boost. unfortunately, my current bottle is almost out and the perfume is discontinued so i've been hoarding samples in search of a new signature scent.
here's my current sample collection, i'll be updating it with my thoughts as i use each of them.
** updated with notes on thé noir 29 and tuberuse 40 (10/4/22)
** updated notes on another 13, neroli 36, and missing person (8/25/22)
atelier // vanille insensée
carolina herrera // good girl (edp)
ngl i blind bought a full size of this after my favorite fragrance tiktoker said that for some reason it drove men and lesbians crazy and it really did not disappoint. at the risk of sounding hyperbolic, i truly can't remember a time i wore this and didn't get a compliment. i also adore the packaging! the shoe bottle looks so cute on my nightstand even though some people say it's sort of tacky. personally, it's not my favorite scent that i own, and i think it's lacking that 'wow' factor. still, there's no point in fixing something that isn't broke, so i'll continue to wear this for date nights, clubbing etc.
chanel // coco mademoiselle (edp intense)
chanel // chanel 1957
diptyque // do son (edt & edp)
currently, this is the frontrunner of the bunch! it's such a clean, fresh jasmine scent and makes me think about summers spent in india sitting out on my grandmother's veranda while my mom braids strings of jasmine flowers into my hair. it's bright and lovely, and the edt especially is great for daily wear. the edp is a little too intense for me, but i think i'll use it on days when i may be outside longer.
eight & bob // memoires de mustique
etat libre d'orange // soul of my soul
glossier // you (solid perfume)
this was a repurchase! i first picked it up in march 2019 when i visited a friend in new york. it's a pretty subtle musk scent that sticks close to the skin without being overpowering. the solid form is so easy to carry around and reapply and was another great daily wear fragrance especially while i was a campus tour guide. it was discontinued for a while but i managed to snag another one recently. the weighted packaging is cute while also being an excellent fidget toy, so this one has a permanent home in my bag.
juliette has a gun // not a perfume
this was one the tiktok girlies were raving about, especially for people who are sensitive to scents. the main ingredient is cetalox, a synthetic ambergris, so it truly is not a perfume. on me, it's a gentle musk scent that just feels clean. it lasts through the day and really does feel like it mixes well with my natural skin scent. personally, i was a little underwhelmed by it but because it's hypoallergenic i got a good amount of use out of it while i was working in a doctor's clinic.
le labo // another 13
so i've always wanted to try scents from le labo but full disclosure i picked this one bc it was in doyoung's what's in my bag video. i really had no idea what this was going to be like going in, but i really liked it at first smell! it falls into that same musk category like not a perfume, missing person, glossier you etc. but i think that it's not as sweet as either of those two and feels a bit more mature. i really like how it smells on my when i just apply it, but i think after it dries and especially after a few hours it has almost a metallic smell that's not necessarily off-putting but i'm not sure it works well with my body chemistry. i actually love this scent on my boyfriend, though, so maybe i'll convince him to start wearing it at least until the sample runs out.
le labo // citron 28
le labo // neroli 36
this one is such a gorgeous floral! i picked this one because it was in jaehyun's perfume collection and i was curious since the scent notes tend to make it seem like a more feminine perfume, but i think it works really well as a unisex fragrance. it's pretty intense at first spray and lasts quite long on my skin, but the dry down is pleasant. i don't think i'd commit to a full bottle just because i don't think the floral comes out as well as in do son, and there's a soapiness to it that i'm not sure i love.
le labo // thé noir 29
i'm honestly obsessed with this one i'm not even gonna lie. i smelled it in store, and initially picked it up because i thought it would smell nice on my boyfriend, but as soon as i started wearing it i decided to keep it for myself. it's a lovely mix of woody, spicy, minty, and floral and i love how the sweeter notes come through in the dry down. i feel like this is a lovely evening scent, but still isn't so overpowering that it would be distracting during the day. i wore this recently on a night out and received so many compliments! my birthday is coming up soon and i've been thinking about treating myself to a full size perfume, and right now thé noir is a top contender.
le labo // tubereuse 40
this is their new york city exclusive and my bf actually picked this out for me when we went to their store. it's a pretty strong white floral with a nice blend of citrus from the bergamot. it actually lasts much longer than I expected and feels very fresh and clean. when i initially saw the reviews for this, most people mentioned the citrus notes, but i think on my skin the floral notes are more prominent. i really love this one, and i may pick up another sample next september during the special event but i doubt i'd ever go for the full size. it is a perfect spring/summer scent, though, and i'm excited to be able to use it again soon.
maison francis kurkdjian // amyris femme
this is such a pretty perfume that works so well with my body chemistry. it's woody and fruity and floral without being cloying and it feels more mature than most of the fragrances i own. it's warm and is an especially lovely fall/winter scent. i love wearing this one on special occasions, it's been a go-to each time i've attended a wedding or graduation. i just wish it wasn't so expensive, because my sample is running out and i simply do Not have the funds for even a small bottle at this time ;__;
phlur // missing person
i really wanted to hate this just because i'm sick of seeing the ads for it both sponsored and unsponsored all over tiktok, but i actually thought it was nice. it's a light skin musk scent with a hint of sweetness that i actually loved, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to last very long. it's pretty, but somewhat forgettable among other perfumes in my collection so i don't understand the hype but it smells nice enough. i'm pretty sure sephora carries these, so if you get a chance to try it out, let me know!
tom ford // noir de noir
this is such a gorgeous fragrance! it's earthy and spicy with a hint of sweetness and i feel like on me at least, it smells even better after the dry down. the oud and saffron notes stand out and it just feels so warm. it's a perfect fall/winter scent but a bit too intense for daily wear. i have a travel size of the edp and there are times when i still feel it on my skin even after a shower. it makes a strong impression, though, and is perfect for special occasions.
